Basic Obedience

Our six-week course taught in your home, is for dogs four months of age and older. The purpose of the program is to educate you on the fundamentals of dog behavior so that you can communicate clearly with your pet. You will learn how to teach your dog basic commands and to solve behavior problems, such as house soiling, excessive barking, nipping, jumping up on people and objects and destructive chewing. The basic course is taught on a leash and consists of six one hour sessions. The commands that are included in the basic courses are:

Heel

Teaching your dog to walk on a loose leash and sit automatically when you come to a stop.

Sit

Your dog will learn to sit on command and to remain in the sitting position until released by the handler.

Down

To lay down on command and stay until released.

Stay

This command can be given from either the sit position or the down position and it signifies to the dog that the handler is walking away and that he must remain where he is until the handler returns to release him.

Come

Your dog will learn to come directly to you and sit, whenever he is called. This is the only command in the basic course taught off-leash.
